CINEMA: TV Series “Watch Out for the Gorilla” Begins Filming in Catania. Cast Officially Announced: Raffaele Esposito, Roberta Caronia and Lina Sastri in the Leading Roles

From Monday, 19 January, and for ten days, the city will become an open-air nighttime film set for the pilot episode of the TV series produced by the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania and directed by Stefano Quaglia of The Family.

An experimental project funded through the PNRR. AI is being explored as a narrative tool for education, science communication and edutainment. The pilot episode features historian Francesco Benigno (Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa) reflecting on the value and meaning of History.

CINEMA: Academy of Fine Arts of Catania, Stefano Quaglia to Direct “The Gorilla”, the TV Series Based on Crime Writer Sandrone Dazieri’s Novel. Milan-Based The Family to Executive Produce the Pilot Episode

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in Catania in January 2026. Negotiations are currently underway to finalize the cast. The Academy will host a masterclass involving students from its Cinema Programme, who will work alongside the crew on set and gain hands-on experience with industry professionals.

Four professors from the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania have been selected to direct two documentaries and one feature film included in the PNRR project, with filming scheduled in Benin, Morocco and six European countries.
